Abstract: DocDokuPLM: Product Structure - Digital MockUp visualization using HTML5 - Florent Garin, DocDoku
DocDokuPLM (Product Lifecycle Management) is a middleware solutions aim at managing the entire lifecycle of a product from its conception to its disposal through the manufacturing stage. PLM systems involve the whole enterprise, they gather at a central point data, business processes and people. They expose backbone services for the company, their partners and their subcontrators thus we design our PLM with the extended enterprise concept in mind. On the technical part we made the decision to not rely on any native code on the client side all the features must be accessible through a regular web browser. If that seems quite obvious nowadays and doesn't represent a big challenge for the "Document Management", "Product Configuration", "Change Management" or "Bill of Materials" modules that tends to be far more complex when developing the data visualization of the product structure. This session will focus on how we implemented the visualization and the manipulation of the Digital MockUp (DMU) using HTML5 technologies. We'll explain the difficulties we encountered and also the various optimizations we made in order to render a model with thousands part. And obviously we'll show a real demonstration !
Biography: Florent Garin is the co-founder of DocDoku, an IT consultancy and software development organization specialized on Android, iOS and HTML5 technologies. Abstract: A platform for monitoring Cloud infrastructure and applications - Bernard Boltz, Orange
Various factors introduce specific and new constrains for the monitoring of the Cloud infrastructure and services. For instance, a monitoring tool has to adapt to the quick and elastic provisioning, an important feature of the Cloud. We developed from an open source platform, Icinga / Nagvis, several modules that allow: 1) For the data center infrastructure monitoring - Auto discovery of components of virtualized infrastructures and automatic set-up of their monitoring according to appropriate templates - Dialogue with the VMware API to query, among other things, the status of clusters, resource pools - Maps management in order to drill up or down in the hierarchy of the data center et the virtualized components. 2) For the application monitoring - Management of an applications dashboard that contains a representative set of key performance indicators (KPIs). - Calculation of the indicators - Management of maps showing the links between application and infrastructure. This implementation allows enhanced monitoring. We have also learned the lessons of the experimentation. The presentation will present these modules and limitations encountered.

Abstract: BtrPlace: An Extensible VM manager to face up to SLA expectations in a cloud - Fabien Hermenier, University of Nice Sophia Antipolis and Jean-Marc Menaud, Ecoles des Mines de Nantes
Clients of IaaS providers are looking for dependable infrastructures that can cope with their SLA requirements. To stay attractive, a cloud must then rely on a VM placement algorithm with features matching as possible the SLAs expectations. These constraints are however very specific to each of the tenants but also the infrastructure. They also cover a large range of concerns (reliability, performance, security, energy-efficiency, ...) that are continuously evolving according to new trends and new technologies. Current VM placement algorithms are designed as monolithic systems. Clouds administrators and clients are then passive actors, waiting for the future release of the placement algorithm that may match their current expectations. During this presentation, we will present BtrPlace, an open source VM manager that can be specialized on demand by third party developers to integrate new placement constraints. BtrPlace has already been used successfully to address high-availability, security but also energy-efficiency concerns. It has been developped since 2006 in the Mines de Nantes then with the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis. It is now a part of the OpenCloudware project that aims at building an open platform for the development and the deploymet of distributed application on clouds.

Abstract: XLcloud: Remote rendering for games and 3D graphics applications in the cloud - Patrick Petit, Bull & Marius Preda, Telecom SudParis
The XLcloud project proposes a cutting-edge high performance cloud computing environment that enables low-latency remote rendering of 3D and complex 2D applications such as online gaming, cultural artifacts visualization and virtual body inspection in the cloud.?Many people refer to cloud computing as managing virtual machines that run on top of an hypervisor. However, in certain circumstances, using virtualization is not desirable when applications have stringent performance requirements or need access to devices that are not supported by hypervisors like GPUs for example.?However, it is still very convenient to utilize the features of a IaaS cloud such as instance management and image management for use cases that require the automated provisioning of a collection of cloud resources. As such, the main paradigm of XLcloud is based upon the ability to instantiate purpose-built virtual cluster instances that feature a collection of connected physical and virtual resources to support high-performance / low-latency video encoding and interactivity streaming artifacts.?The presentation of XLcloud will provide a description of the Remote Rendering Virtual Cluster architecture with a particular emphasis on server components that are designed to enable a highly pervasive environment allowing end-users to run their 3D applications anywhere on any device. In addition, we will describe a low computational method to perform ROI-based (Region Of Interest) video encoding and adaptive streaming as well as a multi-modal representation of the images and videos (i.e. pixel vs graphics) to reduce the bit rate requirements. Finally, we will conclude with a short description of a partitioning algorithm and some implementation details.
Biography: Patrick Petit is a senior software architect with over 25 years of experience in distributed systems, open-source software engineering, Internet technologies, and IT systems management. Patrick has joined Bull in Marsh 2011 to work as a cloud computing chief architect for the Innovative Products division. Abstract: The Sirocco multi-cloud management framework - Frédéric Dang Tran, Orange Labs & Pawe? Rubach, Orange Poland
While private cloud solutions as well as public cloud service offers are numerous, effective management still remains a challenge where it comes to multi-cloud or hybrid cloud deployment models where applications span several clouds. This presentation gives an overview of the OW2 Sirocco multi-cloud management framework with a particular focus on two topics: API mediation and placement management. Sirocco allows consumers to provision resources on multiple cloud providers whether private or public and relies on an orchestration layer that hides the heterogeneity of the underlying providers (in terms of API, virtualization technology...) through a unified user interface and API. Sirocco has adopted the DMTF Cloud Infrastructure Management Interface (CIMI) whose 1.0 release was released on 29 August 2012. Internally, this unified API is translated to the specific API and virtual resource model of each provider. Sirocco currently supports Amazon EC2, VMware vCloud Director as well as OpenStack as back-end clouds. A key component of Sirocco focuses on provider selection and placement management, namely how to select a cloud provider that offers the best match between the client request (QoS, geographical constraints...) and the provider's capabilities. Sirocco integrates a flexible decision-making framework that relies on a rule-based engine.
Biography: Frederic Dang Tran is a research engineer at Orange Labs since 1990. He graduated from Telecom ParisTech ENST in 1990. His current research activities focus on cloud computing middleware, virtualization technologies and resource management. He co-represents Orange at the DMTF Cloud Management Work Group since 2011. Pawe? Rubach is an IT architect and researcher at Orange Labs Poland since 2007. He received his M.Sc. in Information Systems and Quantitve Methods from the Warsaw School of Economics in 2003 and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Electronics and Information Systems. Apart from his work for Orange Labs he is an Assistant Professor at the Warsaw School of Economics in the Department of Business Informatics. Since Feb. 2012 he is responsible for the development of the placement management within the Sirocco multicloud broker platform.

Abstract: Helping ISVs and OW2 projects to onboard software to cloud - Alban Richard, Usharesoft
This session discusses how ISVs and OW2 projects can easily onboard their software to cloud. IT cloud app stores and marketplaces are now beginning to emerge. In the near future, such stores will be a new way for ISVs to accelerate their business and grow user adoption. However today, preparing applications for cloud app stores often requires lengthy, manual processes to build software images. Often, these processes are not agile enough to easily support multiple hypervisors and clouds, or quickly implement software updates. ISVs need tools that model software images as templates, as well as automating the assembly and maintenance processes. By using a model-driven approach, ISVs can easily support multiple hypervisors as well as hybrid cloud environments. UShareSoft's UForge image template management platform enables ISVs and OW2 projects to package applications as customizable software templates or ready-to-run VMs available for instant publish to any cloud infrastructure or market place. The session will cover how OW2 projects can benefit from UForge as well as providing a short demonstration of the UForge factory and app store in action.
Biography: Alban Richard is CEO of UShareSoft, bringing more than 25 years experience in the IT industry, including engineering, marketing and product management executive roles, with P&L and general management responsibilities. Abstract: SpagoBI and Big Data: next Open Source Information Management suite - Monica Franceschini, Engineering
Organizations adopt Business Intelligence tools to analyze tons of data: nonetheless, several business leaders do not dispose of the information they actually need. This happens because the information management scenario is evolving. Various new contents are adding to structured information, supported by already known processes, tools and practices, including information coming from social computing. They will be managed by disparate processes, fragmented tools, new practices. This information will combine with various contents of enterprise systems: documents, transactional data, databases and data warehouses, images, audio, texts, videos. This huge amount of contents is named "big data", even though it is not just related to a big amount of data. It refers to the capability of managing data that are growing along three dimensions - volume, velocity and variety - respecting the simplicity of the user interface. The speech describes SpagoBI approach to the "big data" scenario and presents SpagoBI suite roadmap, which is two-fold. It aims to address existing emerging analytical areas and domains, providing the suite with new capabilities - including big data and open data support, in-memory analysis, real time and mobile BI - and following a research path towards the realization of a new generation of SpagoBI suite.
Biography: Monica is IT Solution Architect and has more than ten years of experience in the development of projects for the industry and public administration, based on Java technologies. She has worked in the field of content management, search engines, portals as well as web applications security and accessibility. On the strength of her skills and her passion for open source software, she delivers consulting services, training courses and on-the-job training on Business Intelligence and SpagoBI. She contributes to the development of the suite and to the realization of customers' projects. She also carries out promotional activities supporting the spreading and development of the suite at the international level.

Abstract: "The Big Challenge of Big Data and Hadoop Integration - Cédric Carbone, Talend"
Enterprises can't close their doors just because integration tools won't cope with the volume of information that their systems produce. As each day goes by, their information will become larger and more complicated, and enterprises must constantly struggle to manage the integration of dozens (or hundreds) of systems. Apache Hadoop has quickly become the technology of choice for enterprises that need to perform complex analysis of petabytes of data, but few are aware of its potential to handle large-scale integration work. By using effective tools, integrators can process the complex transformation, synchronization, and orchestration tasks required in a high-performance, low cost, infinitely scalable way. In this talk, Cédric Carbone will discuss how Hadoop can be used to integrate disparate systems and services, and provide a demonstration of the process for designing and deploying common integration tasks.
Biography: Cédric Carbone is Talend's Chief Technical Officer since its inception, where he manages the data integration, data quality, big data, MDM, and ESB products lines with an international team of more than 140 R&D engineers. He's also a Board Member at the Eclipse Foundation and OW2 consortium. Cédric has lectured at several universities on technical topics such as XML or Web Services. He holds a Master's Degree in Computer Science and an Advanced Degree in Document Engineering.

Abstract: Building an application on the SugarCRM platform - John Mertic, Sugar CRM
Need to build an application to run part of your organization? One approach is that you could start writing something from scratch, perhaps leveraging an existing general purpose framework to help get you going. However, even if you use a framework, there's still the need to build all those standard components such as user interface, workflow, and ACL security, which can take quite some time to design and code. There's no need to start from scratch; SugarCRM is designed as a Rapid Application Development platform. In this session you'll learn the basics on how to build a business application on the Open Source SugarCRM platform.
Biography: John Mertic serves as the Community Manager for SugarCRM, having several years of experience with PHP web applications and open source communities. Abstract: What's new with Petals ESB? - Christophe Hamerling, Linagora
If you have missed the activity around Petals ESB these last months, then this session is for you. As a reminder, Petals ESB is an Enterprise Service Bus created in 2005 and hosted by OW2. Thanks to a service approach and the SOA paradigm, Petals aims at reducing the coupling between applications. Beyond the usual integration use case, Petals can be seen as a backbone infrastructure in information systems. This allows applications to focus on their business and reduces the complexity of informations systems thanks to a better modularization. One of the most notable aspect of Petals ESB is that it is distributed (several physical servers make a single virtual one). This alternative approach to clusters gives a lot of flexibility and allows several architecture solutions (geographical distribution, high availability, load balancing...). This presentation discusses the changes brought by the last versions. A focus is given to the tools that come with the platform, and how they cover various users and project stages (design, development, administration, platform monitoring, business monitoring). The presentation also introduces the upcoming features in Petals ESB and the use cases they will cover.

Abstract: WebLab: an open source software for open source intelligence - Gérard Dupont, Cassidian
Information is power, thus search engines are key in many organizations. However knowledge workers are not standard users: their aims and needs are specific and often should not be shared with external providers - searching for information becomes intelligence. For these professionals, we proposed an integration platform made to facilitate the setup of intelligence solutions. Whether it concerns business or strategy - the platform can be adapted to any specific needs and domain allowing analysts to detect key information. However, making sense out of the large amount of unstructured content is a complex task. The Web is large and information is present in many forms. Complex techniques are necessary to discover the hidden structure of content and a single software provider cannot be expert on all them. Thus the integration platform comes as a perfect solution enabling the use of the best tools for each function. In this presentation we will present OSINT challenges and its growing importance. Then we will detail the WebLab approach to build flexible and scalable OSINT applications matching the fast-paced nature of OSINT. From semantic data models to upper architecture passing through selected technologies used, the presentation will do the complete tour of the WebLab project.
Biography: Gérard Dupont is a research engineer in CASSIDIAN (an EADS company). He joined the System Design Center for his PhD, where he applied machine learning techniques to interactive information retrieval. He worked on several projects involving advanced media mining techniques: information extraction, multimedia processing and semantic knowledge bases. In particular he has been working on the WebLab platform since the early design. He participated to its release as an open source project on OW2 in 2008 and now work on the interactive retrieval components as well as enhancement of the core architecture (including privacy protection) through European research projects.

Abstract:Tracking code evolution for open source universe
    Meng Li, Peking University.
The existing large amount of OSS artifacts has provided abundant materials for understanding how code is reused in open source universe, in particular, what code pieces are mostly reused, in what circumstances people reuse code, and so forth. Understanding this process could help with legacy software maintenance, as well as help to explore best practice of software development. Targeting the change history data of thousands of open source projects, we try to answer the following question: First, how is code reused by other projects? Second, how are code files organized in project and how does this organization structure change over time? To answer these questions, there are several technical difficulties we have to overcome. For example, because of the different kinds of VCSs, it is hard to figure out a uniform model which can represent the evolution progress of code files stored in them. Also, each VCS may have its own data format, so, extracting data from them is a big challenge. Furthermore, using current software algorithm and hardware platform to analyze the version iteration and reuse information of about a billion code files is another challenge.

  • Daniele Gagliardi

Abstract:An open source infrastructure supporting software quality assessment at Engineering Group
Daniele Gagliardi, Spago4Q - Engineering Group.
Engineering Group's Quality Assurance department has developed an infrastructure allowing to monitor the quality of the development processes of software projects and products, which was also needed to achieve the CMMi-DEV lev.3 certification compliance. The infrastructure allows the logical and technical integration of different tools supporting the development and management of software projects, in compliance with the corporate organizational rules, thus granting a high level of flexibility to users, who can choose between open source tools and, if requested, proprietary ones. The cornerstone of this process is Spago4Q, which provides the working groups with the necessary information to trace and develop end-users' requirements, to manage tests and project information, including risks, opportunities, metrics and documents. Moreover, it allows the Quality Assurance department to make its own audits on projects and related management processes. Spago4Q extracts the needed information from the different data sources, integrating them into a consistent meta-model. The speech describes the results obtained through the development of original solutions and the integration of both open source and proprietary products, such as TestLink, Jira, Liferay and Alfresco. The speech will include an overview on the possible improvements in terms of project quality and corporate processes.
Biography: Daniele Gagliardi, is an IT Solution Architect. Before joining Spago4Q design team, he has been working for several years in the domain of Identity and Access Management, web applications design as well as development of PKI (Public Key Infrastructures) and digital signature products. Abstract: VESPA: Multi-Layered Self-Protection for IaaS Clouds
    Marc Lacoste, Orange Labs.
Self-protection has raised growing interest as possible element of answer to the cloud protection challenge. Faced with multiple threats and heterogeneous defense systems, the autonomic approach proposes simpler, stronger, and more efficient cloud security management. Previous solutions fall at the last hurdle, overlooking one or several key desirable features such as flexible security policies, cross-layered defense, multiple control granularities, and open security architectures. This talk presents VESPA, an open self-protection architecture and framework for cloud infrastructures that overcomes the previous limitations. Developed in the OpenCloudWare project, VESPA adopts a policy-based management approach, and allows a two-level regulation of security, both within a software layer and across layers. Flexible coordination between self-protection loops allows enforcing a rich spectrum of security strategies such as cross-layer detection and reaction. A multi-plane, extensible architecture also enables simple integration of commodity detection and reaction components. Evaluation results on a VESPA KVM-based implementation show that the design is applicable for effective and yet flexible self-protection of cloud infrastructures.
Biography: Dr. Marc Lacoste is a senior research scientist in the Security Department of Orange Labs. His main research interests are in security architecture, notably in cloud computing security, self-protecting systems, and open security kernels. He contributed to several European projects such E2R, investigating self-protection for Beyond 3G networks. He served in several major conference program committees. Member of the ACM, he also published numerous security research papers in international conferences, and holds several patents in this area. Dr. Lacoste received engineering degrees from Ecole Polytechnique and Télécom ParisTech, and holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Grenoble, France.
