eXo Platform is a leading provider of open-source and sovereign digital workplace solutions, supporting organizations for over 20 years in building collaborative, secure and flexible work environments. More than one million employees and numerous clients worldwide use the eXo Platform today, which combines communication, collaboration, knowledge management and engagement in a unified experience, augmented with controlled AI.
As an open-source, sovereign alternative to proprietary solutions such as Microsoft 365 and its AI assistant Copilot, eXo Platform allows organizations to set up and operate their digital workplace according to their own choices: in the cloud or on-premise.
A few weeks ago, eXo Platform reached a new milestone by announcing the launch of its digital workplace augmented by multi-model AI, integrated directly at the core of daily work.
AI integrated at the core of daily use
To address the challenges of fragmented usage across multiple tools, data control, governance and technology dependency, eXo integrates AI capabilities directly within its digital workplace. AI is thus accessible everywhere, from content, discussions, projects and task management, enabling users to:
- Draft, improve and translate content directly within the interface
- Search and retrieve information semantically across the entire platform
- Stay informed of activity and summarize conversations
- Extract tasks and act directly within their work environment
Context-aware assistants that respect access rights
eXo's AI relies on contextual assistants that operate based on where they are invoked (a project space, a document, a team discussion), strictly respecting each user's access rights. Beyond simple conversational interaction, these assistants can also facilitate execution: creating tasks, triggering actions, launching workflows, while keeping human in the loop through explicit validation.
A multi-LLM architecture supporting data sovereignty
At the core of this new release is a flexible, multi-model architecture. Organizations can select and combine multiple AI models according to their own needs and compliance policies, such as:
- Mistral AI, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini...
- Open-source or self-hosted models for fully on-premises deployments
Data retrieval relies on a RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) approach: internal content is securely indexed and retrieved at query time, grounding AI responses in the organization's own knowledge base. All AI interactions are governed by strict permission enforcement.
This architecture allows organizations to maintain full control over their data, avoid dependency on a single vendor, and adapt AI usage to their security and regulatory requirements.
Open and extensible by design
True to its open-source DNA, eXo's AI is built on an extensible architecture. Organizations can connect external services or develop their own assistants via standard APIs and protocols, making it straightforward to integrate AI into existing business environments and processes.
