The Linphone project has undergone significant evolution over more than 20 years. Starting as a simple "garage project," it has grown into a company generating recurring revenue. Its interface, initially designed as a basic VoIP tool for a technical audience, has transformed into an intuitive platform resembling a mainstream consumer app. The range of features has expanded considerably to include advanced options, while the infrastructure has evolved from a single server to a full suite of Flexisip servers, including proxy, presence management, video conferencing, gateway to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), and more.
Originally focused on developers, aligned with our positioning as a technology provider, Linphone now targets a broader audience by adding a service provider offering: SMEs, integrators, public institutions, and MSPs (managed service providers), with multiple hosting options (SaaS, on-premises, or private cloud).
This project is continuously improving, driven by an internal team of 20 engineers dedicated to development and innovation. Today, we are reaching a new milestone by offering a modern, smooth, and intuitive communication solution as an alternative to proprietary mainstream applications, while maintaining our open-source identity. This new version is based on version 5.4 of the Liblinphone SDK.
Linphone 6.0 launches on Android, iOS, and Desktop
Android: stable version now live
After over a year of development, the stable version of Linphone 6.0 for Android is now available. This new release includes numerous improvements:
- A completely redesigned interface;
- A smooth and consistent user experience;
- Single Sign-On (SSO) for simplified login;
- Advanced multi-account management;
- Many performance and security enhancements.
iOS: public beta available
iOS users can now test the Linphone 6.0 beta via TestFlight. This version offers a more ergonomic interface, smoother navigation, and a design closer to mainstream consumer apps.
Desktop: beta version for Linux, Windows, and Mac
All audio and video call features have been tested, validated, and are now stable, except conference calls, which are still being optimized. If you only use one-to-one calls, this version is fully usable on a daily basis. Instant messaging will be added in a future update.

Two-way Calls with Third-party Domains
The SIP Bridge (B2BUA) now supports incoming calls from external domains (third-party SIP, PSTN networks, virtual numbers), in addition to already supported outgoing calls. Dynamic user account management via database replaces the old text-file configurations, facilitating integration and centralization.
