However, before you go to the online form, please take the time to review the main themes so that you will have the best chance to be selected.

Themes

The central theme of OW2con this year is: "The Challenges of Full Stack Open Source". This background theme refers to the challenges appearing today for decision makers who consider evolving their information systems with open source software. As open source has become mainstream it is not limited to the operating systems and infrastructure middleware. Open source software across the whole information system is what we call "full stack open source".

OW2con'20 is a unique opportunity for participants and speakers to discover great projects while discussing and sharing experiences with regard to the main trends of their trade.

At OW2con, we look for talks that improve the technical skills of open source professionals, strike their imaginations and motivate them to excel professionally. The OW2 annual conference is appreciated for its short, focused and cutting-edge sessions. Please submit a presentation that fits in one or more of the following broad themes.

  • AI

Artificial Intelligence is quickly propagating in the software industry and is coming soon to a variety of devices and technologies that we are all using every day. In this theme, we are looking for computing platforms focusing on machine learning, reasoning, natural language processing, speech recognition, vision, etc.

  • Application Platforms

We look for presentations on generic components and application platforms for enterprise information systems spanning from middleware to application framework through big data, business intelligence, BPM, CMS, PLM, Wikis, illustrating open source going mainstream.

  • Big Data and BI

Today BI systems enable to integrate advanced analytics for big data. Advanced analytics and BI can be highly complementary; advanced analytics can provide a deep, exploratory perspective on the data, while BI systems provide a more structured user experience. We are expecting to discover the best of recent innovations in open source BI area.

  • Blockchain

Blockchains will profoundly disrupt dozens of industries including banking, finance, insurance,  amongst many others. It opens large opportunities to open source developers. This theme will welcome presentations around the latest trends and applications among blockchains.

  • Dependency Management

Dependency management covers the techniques for declaring, resolving and using dependencies required by the project in an automated fashion. We are looking for ideas and new technologies enabling to improve package management and make it more intelligent.

  • Infrastructure Automation

Infrastructure automation tools and methods that save time and reduce risk of human error in root tasks, IT configuration, patch management and performance tracking.

  • IoT

The broad IoT space is moving toward a platform model that encompasses a number of functional layers providing connectivity, security, data management and application enablement on top of hardware-specific interfaces.

  • NLP (Natural Language Processing)

Natural Language Processing is a branch of artificial intelligence that deals with the interaction between computers and humans using the natural language. This theme welcomes presentations that propose innovations in the field.

  • OSS Challenges

As open source is going mainstream it brings a whole range of new challenges to the open source ecosystem. IT developers, vendors, users and even open source organisations have to adapt. We are looking for presentations focusing on OSS challenges or providing examples of updated strategies implemented to overcome those challenges.

  • OSS Governance

Open source compliance has become an ever growing concern and many large companies have named compliance officers. This track is about compliance and liability but not limited to this. It includes also the idea of building awareness within large end users and systems integrators and developing mutually benefical relationships with the EU OSS ecosystem.

  • OSS Market Readiness

Open source software is a powerful enabler for collaborative innovation, however, making the source available does not automatically attract contributors or grant immediate market access. OSS Market Readiness is all about facilitating the adoption of OSS by conventional decision makers, and addressing what we call the delivery challenge of OSS.

  • OSS in Big Cities

We seek presentations on open source solutions and best practices for big cities. Global cities may be determined by different regulations and organizations but their expectations are similar. They are submitted to the pressure of proprietary vendors and all look at improving their OSS strategies.

  • OSS in Europe

The European Commission has recently updated its strategy for internal use of Open Source Software and is willing to further increase the role of this type of software internally. We are looking for presentations talking about new related initiatives in Europe and new perspectives for the European open source ecosystem.

  • Open Cloud

This is a theme for technical- and business-oriented presentations focusing on open source cloud computing, proposed by members participating in the OW2 Open Source Cloudware Initiative (OSCi) or external technology experts.

  • Others

We love any proposal with a content worth sharing with the OW2 community even if it is outside this scope. Do not hesitate to submit yours it will be evaluated with an open mind!

  • Privacy & Security

Open source software and OW2 have a role to play in this sector. This theme welcomes presentations that demonstrate technologies, projects and best practices that can help position and build the OW2 Privacy and Security Initiative

  • Software quality and testing

Aligned with the OW2 Quality Program "Oscar" (Open-Source Software Capability Assessment Radar), this theme aims at highlighting projects and initiatives that help improve open source software quality and market readiness.
